  • After 3 years of heavily engaging with many people and starting out by giving them the benefit of a doubt. I can confidently say not only do they know. Most of them genuinely enjoy the rush of knowing they have been given privileges. They just object to people explaining in detail how they got that privilege. Most of them would rather not know and many of them know. They then make the decision not to care because the capitalistic system incentivizes the behavior to continue.
  • In capitalism every man is out for himself. This means that even if another person is struggling you are supposed to be selfish. Selfishness of the individual is the golden rule of capitalism. They call it the maximization of profits but it’s really just another way of skating over any responsibility for one’s own morality.
  • So even though theoretically racism, genocide and rape are technically wrong. Capitalism absolves anyone with enough money and power to subvert those consequences.
  • In a system like that it’s not really shocking people would see what’s wrong and turn a blind eye. As far as they are concerned inequality is how their society functions. They know if the inequality is removed the society breaks down. So what we are really asking of them when we ask them to acknowledge inequality. Is asking them to acknowledge that their entire system is unethical. They aren’t going to do that because that would require a level of moral clarity and a backbone that I have seen few if any of them ever display. Jane Elliot, the elderly woman in her 80s is pretty much the only person I’ve seen with the courage to tell the truth.
