How old are you? How did you get to the age that you are without ever realizing that race and ethnicity are not the same thing?

Definitions:

Race: any one of the groups that humans are often divided into based on physical traits regarded as common among people of shared ancestry.

Ethnicity: the quality or fact of belonging to a population group or subgroup made up of people who share a common cultural background or descent.

If a child in South India is adopted from birth by a British couple who lived in North Yorkshire. According to race theory, his/her race and ancestry is Asian /South Indian. His ethnicity would be British.

Racists believe that ethnicity and race are the same thing because they would actually look at a South Indian child who spoke perfect English and assume their culture was “South Indian” just because of their ….say it with me … skin color(physical traits). Basing your assessment of an individual on their skin color is racist or race theory applied.

Some people struggle with pulling key ideas and contrasting ideas out of paragraphs or texts.

I never fully realized the extent of this problem among the U.S publicly educated until I started talking to more people online.

It’s very frustrating for me to have to teach people 5th grade level reading comprehension skills while trying to discuss academic subjects such as racism and sociology.

I really shouldn’t have to waste my time explaining definitions of words to an adult.

You shouldn’t try to enter into discussions you are unprepared for.

Your heavy use of sources means you are learning these things as you go currently and didn’t know this information before you looked it up.

We are not the same.

I only enter into conversations about things I already have some knowledge of .
