I just don’t know how many people under forty even care about something like this. Everyone else has grown up with the internet and a large part of their identity was shaped or influenced by online content from all over the world. Me personally I was born in Florida. I’m use to it but it’s not really part of my identity? In a meaningful way. So I’m use to warm weather and use to play at the beach as a kid. That’s about it. My family, literature and online content shaped me enormously. My mind and personality was completely opened by the things I learned online. People who get their identity from where they are from are boring people. I’m sorry to say this. But they are close minded people and the rest of us don’t really have time to wait for them to catch up. Like I said most people under 40 could care less about their state and are much more concerned with immediate family and friends. As well as their online presence. All I see online from the under forty crowd is an intense interest in other countries and cultures. People protesting in all different countries for George Floyd? It looks like humanity is our identity instead. Don’t get me wrong I know people who get their identity from where they are from. They literally are the most flat boring people imaginable. They wear baseball caps and say “I’m from so and so !” They are usually over 40 and the highlight of their life is watching someone throw a football across the screen or in many cases watching their husbands watch someone throw a football across the screen. It wouldn’t be a cake walk or easy to move to a new place but part of my identity ? That’s a huge stretch.
