I’m a transracial adoptee. My first name is Elisabeth and my middle name is Mae but with a Scottish last name. But I’ve always gone by Lisa which fits me pretty well. So dropping the E and Beth and you get Lisa. Elizabeth with a Z is my mom’s middle name and Mae is my grandmother’s middle name. It’s weird because it’s almost like I’m secretly an Elisabeth and outwardly a Lisa. I spend all my free time studying Greek tragedies and European history because it’s just what I personally gravitate towards. I’m also German , Swedish and Dutch on my bio mother’s side black on my fathers side (race is also imaginary but oppression isn’t ). So it is part of my ancestry and heritage but also I just like black people way more. I like European literature and style aesthetics but black people are just so much nicer. They are less about BS. They care about justice. They are creative and genius in so many ways. I don’t ever choose a side except for the side of justice. African Americans deserve justice. All people in the West deserve justice but AAs deserve it first and urgently so. Then maybe we can liberate the rest of humanity toward sovereignty as well. All that being said I’ve been thinking of changing my name to reflect the power within me. Maybe Gertrude …..haha just kidding . Maybe Lyra.
