What Haley needed was a well connected friend in the 1%. It’s funny how people who have no problem finding 10k have the connections to get credit card debt discharged. I learned this for the first time about 5 years ago.

I was in a position similar to Haley. I was working a retail job but only part time. I had just finished college and I think I had a total of 15k in credit card debt along with a car payment. And yes it was because I was irresponsible. I was spending it eating out with my friends and when I tell you I wouldn’t take those experiences back for anything I had a great time. So capitalism can stuff it.

So while I was at this contracted gig it was a pretty posh working environment. They had a doorman and wined and dined me while I worked( literally?!)They were cool people. Rich and white definitely in the 1% stretching back generations. But they were progressive in a very unflinching way which I admired. Frankly, they knew how this society worked and they had connections out the wazoo.

This is where I learned about discharging credit card debt. She casually mentioned to me that she knew the people on the boards of specific companies and that she had a younger family member who had debt that she couldn’t pay. Anyway she was able to figure out some technicality and was friends with people on the board. So she had contacted “said institution “ and was able to get the debt discharged. You would all know the name of said institution it’s one of the major banks in the U.S I don’t know if I can say it here because I don’t want to get anyone in trouble. But anyway she also had a background in law and her job was to watch stocks all day from her bedroom. She also went to college in France. She’s one of those type of 1%’s.

When I found out that the well connected 1% can watch stocks from their bedroom and just charge off credit card debt based on their knowledge. It opened my eyes tremendously. Imagine people who have no problem finding 100k let alone 10K at the drop of a hat don’t even have to do silly low class things like pay off credit card debt.

Capitalism is a game. Our economy and society is a game. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently.

Life is also a game. The 1% know this. All of it is a game. Once I wrapped my head around this fact my life got a whole lot easier. I wake up everyday and play the game and it’s a lot more fun than it used to be when I was working retail thinking that everyone was working that hard for poverty wages. My debt is all paid off . I inherited a paid off house and I work from home. Being around that wealthy couple opened my eyes to what is really going on. She can work from her bedroom and now so can I.
